Pros and Cons of Liposuction

There are both pros and cons to this cosmetic procedure. First and foremost, it should be made clear that liposuction is not quick fix for weight loss. After the procedure has been performed, the patient will need to exercise regularly and follow a sensible diet in order to prevent the fat from reappearing.

The primary advantage to having liposuction performed is that the results it produces are both dramatic and instantaneous. Most patients who undergo this procedure are able to return to work and their daily schedules within 1-2 weeks of the procedure date. Furthermore, the method in which the fat cells are removed from the body allow the doctor performing the procedure to contour the different curves of the patient's body. Because the fat cells in the problematic regions of one's body have been permanently removed, they will not return if the patient follows the prescribed regimen of diet and exercise.

There are also numerous disadvantages associated with having the liposuction procedure performed. For example, because it is considered cosmetic, most insurance companies will not pay for it, which means that an individual must pay thousands of dollars out of pocket. There is also an extensive list of surgical complications that can wrong during the procedure, including anesthesia risks and complications. Although most of these side effects are rare, the possibility of encountering them is still present. Some patients do suffer from excessive bleeding during and after the procedure because of drug interactions, and the more serious side effects include the formation of blood clots and injuries to the organs in the abdomen.

Before an individual chooses to have liposuction performed, they should examine themselves and ask themselves why they want to have the procedure performed. Their doctor may have them visit a psychiatrist to ensure that they are in the right frame of mind to elect to have the surgery. Additionally, their doctor is likely to discuss the pros and cons of liposuction in depth with them more than once. This is not done to discourage their business, but to ensure the patient's safety and to minimize the risk that they will fall back into old habits that led to the initial weight gain. You want to lose weight but take the time to find the best method for you

  1. Great pros and cons. Personally, I'm decided to go for a liposuction procedure by Dr. Jerome Edelstein in Toronto. I have fat on my hips and I want to get rid of it... Exercises and a healthy diet wasn't useful for me, so this is the only option.
